The HECON Quick-Key System is based on a new semiconductor technology (i-button™)
that allows instant and foolproof access by an unlimited number of users and copiers. The i-button™ is a nonvolatile, silicon memory chip packaged in a rugged, stainless steel, miniature container with a sealed lid known as a HECON Quick-Key Button.

This rugged and durable container preserves the chip even when subjected to corrosive conditions. These Buttons are rated for over 150 million read/write cycles. This can be up to 50,000 times greater than that of magnetic cards or chip cards. When touched, information is instantaneously transferred, verified and stored after acceptable data integrity is confirmed. They can be submersed in liquid, hit with up to ±10,000 volts of static electricity, exposed to severe temperatures or be subjected to the magnetic fields that would destroy the integrity of any magnetic card. The i-button™ benefits from a high-volume, low-cost packaging methodology known for its excellent ability to preserve contents.

HECON Quick-Key Buttons need a source to touch on to in order to work properly. This source is the HECON Quick-Key receptacle which is incorporated into the Controller. The receptacle is a single surface, bright, tarnish-resistant metal that provides for millions of operations. Simply by 'touching' the HECON Quick-Key Button to the Controller located on the copier, you enable the copier. There are absolutely no moving parts in the Controller. All of the moving parts that create so many problems in card-based systems are eliminated. The technology and convenience of this system is light years ahead of competing technologies.

Why HECON Quick-Key Technology is Redefining the Copier Management Industry

Feature Quick-Key Magnetic Card Smart Card
DATA CARRIER
Durability Housed in a stainless steel casing and completely protected from all elements. Waterproof . Can be nicked, marred or accidentally chafed. Data is sensitive to any magnetic field. Packaged in plastic. As card bends, it can damage chip.
Communication 2 Electrical Contacts. Contact by touch.

Any conductive material can be used for TouchKey contacts.

Scratchpad memory provides write cycle data integrity.

Magnetic Reader. Card must be perfectly aligned and held or errors occur.

Data bits can be lost or corrupted.

Eight electrical contacts. Card must be perfectly aligned and held or errors occur. Low impedance required gold-plated contacts.

Data bits can be lost or corrupted.

Security Level I: Unique laser engraved serial number in all devices.

Level II: Encrypt data using serial number as seed.

Level III: Multi-Key device requires 64-bit password for access to data. Higher level than DES (government standard).

none Level III: DES available (government standard)
# of Write Cycles 150 Million or 10 years. Can be only 1 or 3,000 to 10,000 depending on quality. Approximately 10,000. Limited nonvolatile RAM.
ESD ±10,000 volts Unknown Unknown
CONTROLLER
Durability Single surface, bright tarnish resistant metal provides for millions of operations.

Absolutely no moving parts, solid state electronics.

Magnetic Read/Write Head - can be scratched or

mutilated. Needs constant adjustment & cleaning.

Requires mechanical mechanisms to accept & eject cards.

Susceptible to foreign objects being forced into unit or double insertions.

8 delicate pins average 100,000 insertions.
